Bursaries for professional development in higher-level qualifications e.g. MA, MBA, PhD.
Bursaries for staff who want to go on to further study in their academic field or within the pastoral field and complete qualifications for courses like Masters and/or PhD are available. The school does not contribute and pay all of the cost, but some parts are covered. Contact Nathan Heddle for more information.
External CPD on request
General CPD which may be subject based, pastoral based and/or bespoke for staff. These can vary from exam board courses to general knowledge and pedagogy update courses. Staff need to apply via Bluesky CPD tab and these are accepted/denied by the Pastoral lead.
Health and Safety Training and First Aid

Charted Teacher Mentor Status (12 – 24 months)
Chartered Teacher (Mentor) Status will build on the success of Chartered Status for teachers and leaders. Mentors who participate will have the opportunity to demonstrate their expertise as they progress through four assessment units to attain the high standard expected of Chartered Status: The Certificate in Evidence-Informed Practice, The Development of Teaching Practice Award (Mentor), The Professional Knowledge Award (Mentor), The Certificate in Education Research and Inquiry. ECT /In School Mentoring and training (2 years)
ECT mentoring, we work with in-school mentors to equip them with the necessary tools to fully support ECTs. Our mentoring programme ensures that mentors are proficient in all aspects of the ECF and develops mentoring and coaching techniques that will enable them to support and challenge ECTs. These highly trained mentors will play a key role in the development of ECTs and the transferable skills learned will produce long lasting benefits for mentors’ schools and colleagues. Mindfulness Ambassador or Mindfulness Instructor
Subject Maven Role (18 months over 4 terms with peer to peer assessment and evidence portfolio)
A new CPD pathway is being devised to improve teacher excellence and the impact of subject leaders involving a new school-based/ Prince’s Teaching Institute certificate and title of ‘Maven’. It focuses on Subject Leadership, Knowledge and Pedagogy. There are two options, leadership of and mastery of the curriculum and/or subject knowledge enrichment and mastery. Yad Vashem Week long Seminar in Israel (1 week)
Organised through Yad Vashem, the school, every February half term takes applications for staff to go to Jerusalem, study for a week at Yad Vashem, and engage in their Holocaust teaching program. There is minimal cost to the staff members, generally having a private room and not sharing and/or any extras. The overwhelming majority is funded and the school takes applications in first term from staff as to how they would benefit from the tour and how that would impact their teaching at Hasmonean. Nathan Heddle will send out emails asking for expressions of interest and then staff can interview to be chosen to attend.
Inset Training
General inset training occurs three to four times per year in September, November and January, with some options in June and/or Friday afternoon. Inset is set up by the school and is whole school based.
