Summary

We are looking to appoint a person with excellent literacy and communication skills as well as initiative, flexibility and the ability to build rapport with the students at Hasmonean Boys’ and Hasmonean Girls’ schools and to run the school Library at each site. After some years with disruption to the functioning of the library, the successful candidate will be responsible for building up library use again in conjunction with the English department.

Hasmonean Multi-Academy Trust is a centre of academic excellence in North West London. The performance of the two schools in the Trust put them amongst the very top comprehensives in the country. Our students attain consistently high standards in their GCSE and A Level examinations. The vast majority of our students go on to study at University with a number being accepted at Oxbridge and medical school each year. The highest expectations are shared by students, staff and parents.

Duties and Responsibilities

Daily running of the school Library

Duties:

To ensure that an effective lending and reference service is provided during the times specified above, using a computerised lending system.
To lead on the selection, ordering, processing and organisation of resources for the library, including checking the content of novels to conform with the ethos of the school
To promote resources and reader development through displays and events (e.g. author talks), the production of book lists and the running of a Book Club
Together with the English Department to organise Accelerated Reader lessons in the library, facilitate Accelerated Reader quizzing and generate reports.
To assist in the provision of resources and support to teaching staff, including planning and implementing library‐based lessons and supporting their professional reading
To Assist in the design and implementation of library induction courses and in the teaching of information skills as part of a formal programme throughout the school
To manage the school’s online subscription services, and training students and staff in their use
To ensure that pupils maintain an acceptable standard of behaviour in the Library and observe the rules
To assist in the maintenance of relevant statistics regarding book borrowing
To assist in regular stock checks
To develop and maintain the Library’s e‐book resources
To assist in the development and implementation of library policies
To assist in the monitoring and evaluation of library services

Qualifications & Experience

Qualifications	Degree GCSE Maths and English grade C or above (or equivalent)	Teaching qualification Qualified librarian (Level 2 minimum qualification) Member of the Chartered Institute of library and information professionals(Cilip)
Experience	Excellent IT skills,	Experience of working in a school library Experience in using a computerised library system Experience of teaching
Knowledge and Skills	knowledge of how to apply skills and knowledge in a school library environment Sound knowledge of literature for children and young people Enjoyment of reading, and ability to communicate that enjoyment to students
Personal Qualities	A confident but welcoming manner when dealing with library users of all kinds Energy, enthusiasm and a commitment to the key role of libraries in the learning process Flexibility and a willingness to undertake a wide range of library routines Confidence in working with students aged from 11 to 18 Highly developed interpersonal skills including influencing skills Clear communication skills
